Getting the Boot: Tall Boots for the Not-so-Tall Girl

First things first -- It's been "forever and a day" since I've written a blog post and, for that, I do apologize.  To say that my first year as an attorney was crazy busy every single day of every single week is a huge understatement.  That said, I do want to continue this blog (though I think I'll take it in a slightly different direction so that I can actually work it into my busy schedule, so stay tuned for more on that later...)

But for now, I wanted to tell you about what's been on my mind lately, namely finding the perfect tall boot!

It dawned on me a few months ago that I have never had a great pair of tall boots.  Sure, I had an el cheapo pair back in college, and I even made an impulsive splurge a few years back on a pair that I've never even worn outside the house.  But that has been the extent of my tall boot collection.  But I love the whole skinny jeans 'n boots look -- and even the look of a great pair of boots with a nice skirt or dress -- but I've never had the raw materials to pull it off.  But now I'm on a mission to change this.

Of course, as petites, boot shopping can be challenging.  The shaft can't be too high.  The calf circumference can't be too wide.  And it has to fit -- and comfortably so!  Oh, and did I mention that I need a boot that won't wreck my budget?  All of this can make finding the perfect tall boot can seem like a tall order!  But I am officially on the hunt.

I've been perusing a couple sites, and I'm about to place an order for a couple of sale pairs at Piperlime.  Check back later to see how things turn out for me.  In the meantime though, I thought I'd offer a few petite-friendly picks that I've come across on the site in case you are also in need of the perfect tall boot for your perfect, albeit not-so-tall self!  :-)

The Height of Fashion: Jeannie Mai

I was channel surfing tonight (taking full advantage of a rare moment to just relax and unwind) when I spied a commercial for "How Do I Look?" on Style Network.  The show is hosted by petite powerhouse Jeannie Mai (who is rumored to be 5'4"), and I have fallen in love with her style.  She is my new fashion inspiration!  (Seriously, I plan to recreate some of her looks very, very soon.)  I've never heard of the show or the host, but evidently Jeannie is pretty well-known and is taking the fashion world by storm.

What about you, dear readers?  Are you all fans of this show?  Of Jeannie's style?  Check out her official website for more fashion-y goodness!

Missing In Action: At A Crossroads

Dear readers, let me apologize for being MIA for the past several months.  SO much has happened in my life that I haven't had a lot of time to update this blog.  For starters, I passed the Bar, moved back home temporarily with the 'rents, got a summer retail job, found the perfect apartment, moved to a new state, got sworn in as an attorney, and started my first real legal gig (which has been working an INSANE number of hours each week).  And that's the Cliff Note's version!

And now, dear readers, I find myself at a crossroads.  I'm really not sure what to do with this blog.  Do I continue it, knowing that my posts will be more irregular and sporadic than I'd like?  Or do I bow out gracefully and just be content to support the growing number of (yay!) petite fashionistas who are heating up the blogosphere?

If I continue it, do I transform it into a fashion blog that chronicles my outfits of the day?  Or should I be worried that my clients won't be so amused if they stumble across their lawyer's daily fashion fix?  ::sigh::  Decisions, decisions...

inJEANius: Joe's Jeans Provocateur Petite

All of these petite denim giveaways of late has reminded me that I really do need a good pair of denim jeans right now.  It's been three to four years since I got my last favorite pairs, but I've outgrown or simply outworn almost all of those.  I need to expand my collection with two or three carefully selected pairs, but I know how hard it is for me to find good denim.  (Note to self: One day do a post telling readers about how you found your favorite old pairs.)

Right now I'm in desperate need of some good denim.  They have to be cute enough for weekend wear but professional enough that I could take them to the office if my new job ever has a casual Friday.  (Fingers crossed!)  So I'm wondering - has anyone ever tried the Provocateur line from Joe's Jeans?  I see that several washes from the petite line are on sale through Wednesday at Hautelook (click here if you need a referral invite) for a mere $79.  This price gets me super excited, and I'm thinking about giving them a shot.  The only thing is - I'm not sure how this line fits.  And I hate that I can't get my money back (only store credit) if the jeans turn out to be duds.  So, petite readers, has anyone else had experience with Joe's Jeans?  If so, I'd love to hear about it before I take the plunge.

Here's the official description from the Hautelook website:

This silhouette has a shorter inseam and a higher knee break to elongate the leg. The measurements are scaled to perfect proportions. This fit is for a woman 5'4" or shorter. If already gifted with longer legs even though she is petite in frame - these can be her "sneaker or ballet flat jean."
  • Zipper and button closure
  • Three front pockets
  • Two back flap pockets
  • Boot cut leg
  • Approx. 31" inseam, 7 5/8" rise
  • Imported
Fit: this style fits true to size

Model stats for sizing: Height: 5'9"  Bust: 34" Waist: 24"  Hips: 35"  Model is wearing size 28.
(Ummm, does anyone else think it's ludicrous to have a 5'9" model wearing these petite jeans?  No wonder she looks ridiculous!)

Care info:  Machine wash
Fiber content:  98% cotton, 2% elastane

What should I do?  Oh, decisions, decisions...
