The weather in Boston has been fantastic lately! It's been warm, sunny, and beautiful for about a week! The cold of winter seems like a distant memory as the city welcomes spring with open arms. And what better way to usher in a new season than with a cute maxi dress? The only problem is -- I don't have such a dress. Never have! I've always been wary of the style. I thought maxis were a big no-no for someone like me. Too long. Too unstructured. Too bold. Too bad. And just too unflattering for me to pull off (or should I say, to put on). But that was before I started this blog. And it was before I realized that (hallelujah!) there are indeed petite maxi dresses for women like us! Inspired by the likes of Nicole Richie, Eva Longoria, Jessica Simpson, and other petite celebrity fashionistas who manage to look chic and fabulous in floor-grazing duds, I am determined to find a maxi that works for me! So here are a few petite-friendly maxi dresses I've found for women who want to look "nothing short of amazing"as they welcome the warm weather ...

Fellow petites, do you own maxi dresses? If so, where did you buy them? Which of the styles above could you see yourself wearing? Let us know!
I was wary of the style as well so I got mine at target...unbeatable deal at $8 for a black cotton one. Their juniors xs fit me well but could probably use a minor hem.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could wear a this type of dress! I have tried on many and none of them look right! I envy women who can pull it off!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and find one -- just ONE -- that works. The BCBG ones are nice, but way way way over my budget. I've ordered the $19.99 one from Belk (which is one of the main department stores in the Southeast US, where I'm from -- kind of like a Macy's).
ReplyDeleteI never thought I could wear maxis either, but I noticed that a a friend of mine (who is only one inch taller than I) on a recent trip to Africa was able to pull off one of the prettiest maxis I've ever seen on a petite woman! I'm up for the challenge now of finding just one that might work for me!
P.S. The reviews for all the Athleta maxis are pretty good, with several girls around 5'0-ish chiming in to say that the dresses fit them. I may try to order the purple one just to see for myself...
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeballing maxi dresses for some time, but at 5'3" felt I would be too short, especially since I don't wear heels every day. I'll have to try one on next time I see something I like!
ReplyDeleteI see you live in Boston - I'm moving there next month!
Hi Megan,
ReplyDeleteI do live in Boston! You'll love it here, I think. I'm actually moving *away* next month though. I'm graduating in a few weeks (hence, why I've been so slow to update this blog) and heading back south to work in the fall. If you have any questions about the city while you're here, feel free to be in touch though. I've lived here seven years now, so I think I know the area pretty well.
Thanks for checking out my blog! :-)
